How we make money
We're free for businesses to use. Here's exactly how we're paid and what that means for the prices you see.

Who we are
Business Energy Expert is a business energy comparison service. We help UK businesses compare electricity and gas prices and agree contracts with suppliers. We don't supply energy ourselves, and we don't act for any single supplier.
Which suppliers we compare
We compare prices from a panel of UK business energy suppliers. We do not cover every supplier in the market. The suppliers on our panel include British Gas Business, British Gas Lite, EDF, E.ON Next (Business), ScottishPower Business, SmartestEnergy, Valda Energy and Yü Energy. The panel can change over time.
How we are paid
You don't pay us anything directly. When a business agrees an energy contract through our service, the supplier pays a commission. That commission is built into the unit rate or standing charge in the quote you're shown, so the prices you compare already include it.
Our live quotes are provided through a comparison partner that holds the relationships with suppliers. When you agree a contract, part of the commission the supplier pays is shared with us.
The quote service is not yet live on this site. Until it is, the postcode boxes take you to a page explaining what will happen, and no quotes are produced and no details are collected. We will name our comparison partner here, and set out exactly how we are paid, before the first quote is issued.
How you'll know what the commission is
Ofgem's rules mean that for business energy contracts agreed from 1 October 2024, suppliers must show any broker fee clearly in the contract's principal terms. You'll see the amount before you agree to anything, and you can ask the supplier about it at any time.
Does commission affect the prices you see?
Commission is part of the price of every quote, which is why it matters that you can see it. Each quote shows the unit rate, standing charge and contract length, and the commission included is set out in the contract's principal terms before you agree. Compare the total cost of each quote, not just the headline rate.
Our data
The price data on this site comes from public sources: the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ofgem, Elexon and National Gas Transmission. We publish it for free and no supplier pays to influence it. Supplier profiles are based on each supplier's own website and Companies House, and no supplier pays to appear or to change what we say.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with our service, email hello@businessenergyexpert.com and we'll respond within five working days.
Ofgem requires suppliers to work only with brokers signed up to a qualifying dispute resolution scheme, such as the Energy Ombudsman or the Utilities Intermediaries Association, for microbusiness and small business contracts. We will publish the scheme that covers this service, and our full complaints procedure, before the quote service goes live.
