About Octopus Energy for Business

Octopus serves micro and small businesses, large commercial users and multi-site firms with as few as 2 sites. Some products are for bigger users: Electric Match needs 10 GWh or more a year on half-hourly meters, and Wind Works targets sites spending over £20,000 a month on energy.

Octopus Energy deemed and out-of-contract rates

If your fixed contract ends without a new one in place, or you move into premises supplied by Octopus Energy without agreeing a contract, you'll pay its deemed or out-of-contract rates. These are typically well above fixed contract prices.

When a fixed Octopus business contract ends, you move to its standard variable tariff. Half-hourly rates can be looked up by region, voltage and usage band (excluding VAT and CCL), but the non-half-hourly lookup did not clearly show business rates when we checked in September 2026, so ask Octopus for yours.

Octopus Energy and energy brokers

Octopus Energy for Business does not work with brokers and sells only direct to customers. It has campaigned for broker regulation and welcomed the government's October 2025 plan for Ofgem to authorise brokers.

Switching from Octopus Energy

You can usually switch away from Octopus Energy when your fixed contract ends, and at any time if you're on deemed or out-of-contract rates. Check your contract for any notice you need to give so you don't roll onto renewal prices.

1. Find your contract end date on a recent Octopus Energy bill or in your online account.
2. Check whether you need to give written notice, and by when.
3. Compare electricity and gas prices for your premises.
4. Agree a new contract. Your new supplier handles the switch, and your supply isn't interrupted.
